Indian Motorcycle Museum Hall
INDIAN was the first commercially marketed gasoline powered motorcycle manufacturing company in the United States. In 1901 George M. Hendee, a high wheel champ and C. Oscar Hedstrom, also a racer, pooled money and inventive genius to open the Hendee Manufacturing Company that later was changed to Indian Motocycle Manufacturing Company in Springfield, Massachusetts. In its heyday it also manufactured airplane engines, bicycles, outboard motors, home unit air conditioners, and many other items that are to be seen in the museum. But, most of all, it is the famous Indian Motocycle that is still known the world over. Its quality and beauty have never been surpassed. Manufacturing ceased in 1953. The INDIAN MOTORCYCLE MUSEUM is an on-site viewing museum located in the very last building owned by this world famous company. It has not only the finest collection of Indian Motocycles and other Indian products but, also a superb collection of toy motorcycles, an extensive photo gallery and showcases filled with memorabilia. Other American made motorcycles are also on display. There is something interesting for all age groups, men, women and children.
